Epilogue
Empty. That was all Lorna could remember feeling on the first few days after waking up in the Triskelion medical facility. There was no feeling of triumph, not accomplishment, no relief. Just empty. Though the other members of the team were either far too exhausted or far to adrenaline fueled over the outcome of one of their more difficult and most important trips to date, Lorna felt enclosed in a silent bubble of her own amidst the buzz that was going on around the agency.
There had always been a lot of meaning to her work. A lot of importance. But at the end of the day, was taking in her father all she had ever really wished to do? If so, what now? Does she find more meaning in her other faculties? She never really thought about her future and being beaten up and bedridden in the med center for a few days gave her too much to think about, too much she didn't want to think about.
Alex and Forge visited her frequently, but she didn't have the energy to entertain them in her sullen solitude. It was actually Scott who broke through her bubble. He gave her a long talk about how much good she's been doing and how proud he was of her. He told her that she was destined to become a great influence and leader in human-mutant relations, that this wasn't the only time she would save mutants. She could even save the world. She had great power, great responsibility. His words comforted her, though she wasn't sure why she should need comfort.
Scott later left on wolverine's bike when they brought it over to base. X must have seen something in him as he was automatically invited to enlist as leader of the First Class. He declined. He left with nothing but a sack of clothes, a bit of cash and the bike. She wasn't quite sure what he was talking about but the last time she saw him before he left he said…
"Something's not quite right."
"About what?"
"About everything. About our lives."
"What are you talking about?"
"Something was not quite right with our parents. Somethings is not quite right about us. There's more to this whole thing than we can understand right now. For you, everything's been accomplished. For me there is more I need to find out, more than I think even X can't explain."
X really did have a lot of explaining to do. Whatever Scott's mission Lorna was sure he'd be able to handle it; he handled himself in the Savage land after all. For her, now, It was about continuing her work with the agency.
When, after Scott's departure, a week had blown over, X called a meeting of the X-agents. This time, there was more than five agents in the room. X was bringing the First Class into commission.
Along with the original agents, still including Howlett, was Jean Grey (codename: Marvel), Idie Okonkwo Munroe (codename: Icegirl), Jay Guthrie (codename: Icarus), Hank McCoy (codename: Primal) and Jeb Guthrie (codename: Bolt).
"Good evening agents." said X. "I want to welcome to the room the recently graduated First Class. I do know you've all previously made acquaintance. Now that our team of active agents have been extended there will have to be minor restructuring. For now the First Class will shadow the original X-agents. Jean has already been designated lead of this team but reports to -- as well as all you First Class agents answer to -- Havok. Highest ranking command of both teams is Lorna, second in command, Alisa. Is everyone clear?"
"Yes sir." They answered in accord.
